From 1912 to 1930 Thomas Jones was a civil servant, first in Wales and then, from 1916 in Whitehall, where he became Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet. He worked closely with and knew well LLoyd George (whose Life he has written) Bonar Law, Stanley Baldwin and Ramsay MacDonald.
